Very helpful and enlightening approach. This could be used for any paint medium and not just the oils that are primarily addressed. I lent this to a friend who states that this book is highly recommended by many artists and she agrees with their recommendation after reviewing it. For those that are serious and are venturing into the world of displaying and selling their art, this is a very informative book. I like the idea of trying to paint small instead of large to accomplish the goal of a picture a day. That alone helps take some pressure off and allows me to be more free with my new attempts to try the unknown. Very good book!

All these info are mentioned in the book. It also includes a chapter on subject matter that talks about the kind of subjects that work well on a small canvas.Marine uses oil as her main medium. However her tips and techniques can often apply to other media as well except for things specific to oil, such as wiping a canvas and starting over again.Throughout the book, there are many other artists being featured with examples of their paintings, sometimes with interviews, such as in the latter chapter on dealing with artist block. I just got this book last night, and I stayed up late reading it with a night light, until I passed out. I am ready and inspired! I consider myself an artist, but I only practice art once every few years (or decades) by forcing myself to take an art class. If you have taken classes, you know that only in rare instances will you get an art instructor that actually teaches you something. They are usually there for moral support, IMO. Art classes are the only way I made myself take time out of my busy life to create some art. Obviously, it's like starting over from scratch every time with my personal art skills. I am really going to make an effort to start painting more (maybe once every Monday night to start?), and I love the idea of doing small pieces, so as not to commit or to feel the unfinished project looming over me forever.
