A must for those considering enlisting or contemplating their past service, as well as for every tax-paying American wondering where their tax money went to.
A truly great book.It speaks more truth in its relatively briefcases than huge books by ones who never actually participated, and especially at levels where the reality of this travesty became so clear (albeit in hindsight).I could say tons, but I am sure that I would so my be repeating what other 5-star reviewers have likely already covered.I would point out that very, very few military people ever won the Medal of Honor. And a bare handful who won it twice. General Smedley Butler was one of those. And only one American military person ever won the equivalent of THREE of the Medal of Honor. That individual was General Butler (aside from his 2 MOH awards, General Butler also won the Marine Medal which at the time was the Marine Corp's highest ranking medal for bravery as legislative language had erred - until later corrected - in not including the Marine Corps in the Medal of Honor statutory wording). And yet, even most Marines (active, inactive, former active, etcetera) would never list General Butler in a list of famous Marines. Why? Because HE isn't taught. In my tour of service in the Corps (late 1960s-early 70s), I never once heard of him. Not in Boot Camp or any other training facility (Camp Geiger, etcetera). And this book is why. This is one of a couple of books that I try for ead monthly. My actual version (paperback though):http://www.amazon.com/War-Racket-Prayer-Complaint-Peace-ebook/dp/B00B8XXZLY/ref=sr_1_7?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1424982506&sr=1-7&keywords=war+is+a+racket
I agree with 70% of his commentary. Didn’t care for the reader of this book. I guess they wanted him to sound like a cantankerous old man and they succeeded. Glad it was only an hour long.
